Artist Date: Singing Resistance Nashville

This past Sunday, February 22, 2026, my partner and I attended the first gathering of Singing Resistance Nashville in the Vanderbilt area of town. This group is part of a growing, nationwide collective of people who will be coming together to sing songs as an act of protest throughout the greater Middle Tennessee area.

Lead by local activist singer/songwriter Heather Mae (pictured above), a large room full of people stood, sang, and swayed in unison. It was a harmonious and life affirming experience, and I am so glad that I attended. I felt a great deal of comfort and inspiration out of sharing my voice, compassion, and intentions with so many people.

The event was topped off with a speech from TN State Representative Gloria Johnson (pictured above). She spoke eloquently about the struggle we face in our state in the face of a cruel Republican super-majority in power.

I hope to join this group and sing along at future protests and on the steps of the state legislature in the months and years to come.
